Notes From Meeting with Michelle
After meeting with Michelle, it got us moving a little bit. Here are some notes from the meeting.
How can the story evolve through chance and randomness?
Story must have a basic structure in order to work.
Intertwining narratives cut in an interesting way. I believe we used "Crash" as an example of how we could do this.
Olipo- Poetry ReMixing
Focused on primary personal experiences
Poetic image breaks relating to experience
How did the subject transform throughout the narrative
How can external audio sources be used in a way to progress a narrative
different ways you can project (smoke, mist, different materials to project onto)
trigger devices within imagery
Here are some artists to research:
Catherine Widgery
Anne Hamilton
Bill Viola
Mary Lucier
Dan Reeves
John Cage
Sergi Eisenstein- montage
Man with a Movie Camera (film)
At this point we still don not have an actual "thesis Question", this should be our focus from here on out.

Inspiration
I just wanted to post these because I thought they are inspirational pieces that use music to drive the animation. Seems relevant...maybe they will come in handy.
Also, I will be posting some notes from our meeting with Michelle shortly

Cymantics Explorations

Cymatics (from Greek: κῦμα "wave") is the study of visible sound and vibration, a subset of modal phenomena. Typically the surface of a plate, diaphragm, or membrane is vibrated, and regions of maximum and minimum displacement are made visible in a thin coating of particles, paste, or liquid.[1] Different patterns emerge in the exitatory medium depending on the geometry of the plate and the driving frequency.
The apparatus employed can be simple, such as a Chladni Plate[2] or advanced such as the CymaScope, a laboratory instrument that makes visible the inherent geometries within sound and music.
Here is a resource I also found on TED with some Cymantics resources and information:

First Post
For my digital design thesis, Matt Girard and I have chosen to combine our brains in order to work on a collaborative project. In our project we would like to explore ideas on how you may use visual imagery to progress narrative, in combination with a musical performance related to the narrative. Think silent film with a live audio element.
In our research we plan to explore how elements of advertising effect us in both a positive and negative light. Also issues of social responsibility relating to design. We would also like to research elements of film and the effects on society. One other aspect of research that has been discussed is the topic of silent film and how it can relate to our chosen topic.
